It is comprised right now of 9 individuals, all established artists and educators passionate about the role of the arts as the voice of the artist for peace and justice and for a better world. The board has both advisory and working roles. It participates actively in the various activities of SOS ART, planning and coordinating exhibits and festivals of art for peace and justice, the yearly publications of art and poetry books by local artists on peace and justice, teaching art and using it as a means to introduce values of peace and justice in the youngster. As such each board member is in charge of one area: education, exhibits, publications, marketing and public relations, fundraising, grant writing. Board Requirements Board members are expected to attend the bimonthly meeting (2 hours); participate actively in, propose new ideas and implement them in the committee they belong to; help disseminating information about the organization and its various activities; provide hands-on help with the various activities. The members are encouraged to contribute funds either from their own or from other sources to help the finances of the organization. Since the mission of SOS ART is local, members usually live and are connected to the greater Cincinnati area/community. Onboarding Potential board members meet first with the President to review mission, vision and principles of SOS ART; discuss commitments and expectations; review what they will be bringing specifically to the board and organization. Their CV and a paragraph specifying their interest and their perceived contribution is shared with existing board members who comment on their suitability. When consensus is reached, potential new members may be asked to attend a board meeting before committing.
