Responsibilities include insuring mission fulfillment, planning and evaluation, approval of policies and practices, fiscal oversight, and fundraising. Board Requirements Board members are expected to: ◦ Follow set guidelines, interpreting the organization's mission and work to donors, potential donors and the community, represent the organization in a positive light, and act as an ambassador and advocate for the YWCA, its mission, and its many facets ◦ Prepare for and attend board meetings and meetings of the committee(s) participating in ◦ Stay informed about the activities and current issues affecting our work, ask questions and request information related to the organization’s strategic goals and plans ◦ Participate in and take responsibility for making informed decisions on issues, policies and other matters as is deemed best to forward the YWCA USA mission and local affiliate plans ◦ Support all actions taken by the board even when voting differently than the majority ◦ Make suggestions through appropriate channels (suggestions on the direction of the organization to be delivered to the CEO) ◦ Foster leadership development and work in good faith with staff and other board members in unity towards achievement of our goals ◦ Make a personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful ◦ Actively participate in one or more major fundraising efforts ◦ Follow established protocols, especially those regarding external and internal communications (e.g. Advocacy Work) ◦ Strictly maintain confidentiality in regard to materials presented in performing the board’s functions, as well as the content and outcomes of board discussions unless explicit permission and guidelines are approved ◦ Act in the best interests of the organization, as a whole, and observe conflict of interest policy when relevant Onboarding Potential Board member candidates are contacted by the YWCA Nominating Committee to gauge their interest in service. They then meet with the President/CEO before their nomination is presented to the Board for a vote. It voted into a membership position, they will meet again with the President/CEO and attend an orientation before beginning their first term.
