Way to Help Title Way to Help Content Being a HEMI Mentor is challenging work, but deeply rewarding. HEMI – the Higher Education Mentoring Initiative – is a team of professionals who work with foster youth and community volunteers like you. As a key member of the team, HEMI Mentors spend about an hour a week with their mentee helping them achieve success in high school, complete an accredited post-secondary program, and transition into independent, successful, young adults. Nationally, only 36% of foster youth graduate high school, 10% will decide to go to college and only 3% will finish. The need is urgent. We have hundreds of youth in our program looking for their long-term adult supporter. Mentors change lives! Will you answer the call? We look for a minimum of a year commitment, but HEMI Mentors ideally continue with their mentee for many years.
